OmniTI is continuing its involvement in STEM efforts, working with the Fulton Computer Club for Girls, to help them understand the workings of modern web applications and to provide guidance on good practices and starting points for getting involved in the computer industry.
This time, Payal Singh and Kelly Anne Johnson will be giving a talk to third, fourth and fifth grade girls involved with the club, demonstrating how to develop and use a simple search engine made with PHP and MySQL. The focus of the talk will be on describing how the back-end of web applications work and showing kids the importance of proper database use. They will also concentrate on using the programming language to store and retrieve data from a database, as well as explaining the importance of scalability consideration as part of the design.
