Recently, we played host to the girls from the Fulton Elementary School, Computer Mania for Girls program, showing them around the offices and telling them a bit about what each practice group does. These third, fourth and fifth grade girls were enthusiastic and asked many great questions.
They are exploring and doing hands-on work with computers to support the following concepts.
- Data: Representing Information
- Putting Computers to Work: Algorithms
- Telling Computers What to Do: Procedures
The program was developed in coordination with Marie desJardins, Professor of Computer Science at University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus, and lead member of the Computer Science Teachers Association in Maryland. The curriculum is from Computer Science Unplugged.
This visit was a continuation of a presentation from OmniTI’s Kelly Anne Johnson and Payal Singh: “Payal and Kelly Anne’s Great Cupcake Vote: The making of a web app,” which they used to explain their backgrounds and roles as women in tech.
To date voting has been brisk, with the Very Cherry cupcake in the lead! Check out the current vote status. Read more at keganassociates.com/computer-mania-club about the Computer Mania Club for Girls and see how you can get involved.
