OmniTI Provides High Performance Support for Viggle Television Loyalty Program

We're proud to be approaching the one-year anniversary for development and continued support for Viggle, the innovative television loyalty program that gives people rewards for checking into the television shows they are watching.

Started by media mogul Robert F.X. Sillerman in January 2012, the Viggle app asks users to check in as they watch shows and then rewards them accordingly. Available for iOS and Android devices, the software "listens" to a broadcast to confirm what the viewer has on television, and awards points based on participation. For more points, users can also play games and answer trivia questions related to onscreen events or a program's sponsor while watching shows. Awarded points can then be redeemed for gift cards, movie tickets, music and other prizes, or be converted into charitable donations. The company has more than 1 million subscribers--a number of OmniTI staff among them!

"With more than a million users, Viggle requires a high-performance architecture that can handle large volumes of traffic, and that can easily scale as the customer base grows," said Brian Dunavant, a web architect at OmniTI. "We were happy that Viggle turned to us to design and support this system. It has delivered wonderfully and continues to grow seamlessly as we support the Viggle application which is reaching new heights in popularity."

Viggle approached OmniTI from the onset to design the server architecture that would support the Viggle mobile app. OmniTI developers also built the internal APIs to connect multiple back-end services together into a cohesive, fast, fault-tolerant system to support response for the mobile client. This means that every interaction that Viggle viewers have goes through the OmniTI-developed API before accessing the back end systems. OmniTI continues to work with Viggle, performing production monitoring, development tasks and database administration, managing a variety of backend database systems including Redis, Riak, and PostgreSQL.

According to Riley Berton, senior director of platform engineering at Viggle, "We have a very rich relationship with OmniTI and consider them an adjunct to our development team. The knowledge and expertise that they bring is invaluable. They truly understand how to work with mission critical, highly scalable systems and we are thrilled to be working with them."
