Denish Patel, lead database architect at OmniTI, will be presenting a talk at LOPSA East called, “Deploying PostgreSQL on Amazon EC2: A Case Study”. Denish possesses a wide depth and breadth of expertise, and experience in database technologies. In his presentation, Denish will describe how one company decided to run its entire IT architecture in the cloud; including their PostgreSQL databases, and was able to do so smoothly, without failures. The talk will include details on setting up highly available solutions for achieving disaster resilience within Amazon’s cloud.
LOPSA East is an annual conference held in NJ and organized by the League of Professional System Administrators (LOPSA) New Jersey chapter. The goal is to provide a forum where system administrators come together, network with their industry peers, share war stories and learn from some of the greatest minds in the profession.
Meanwhile, Robert Treat, COO and Theo Schlossnagle, Founder and CEO of OmniTI will be presenting, “How Do You Eat An Elephant?” at RICON East this year. RICON East is a distributed systems conference by and for engineers, developers, scientists and architects.
When OmniTI first set out to build Circonus, a next-generation monitoring system, Postgres was an obvious choice. While this worked well for developing the initial Open Source application, as OmniTI continued to grow the Circonus public monitoring service, scaling issues surfaced. In this talk, Treat and Schlossnagle will cover some of the other systems initially evaluated and the changes that were made to make the original Postgres system work better. In addition, they will discuss the eventual solution to the problem: building a time series database. That's only half the story. They’ll also delve into how they swapped out backend data storage pieces in the production environment, all the while capturing and reporting on millions of metrics, without downtime or customer interruption.
OmniTI staff speak at numerous conferences around the world each year. We believe firmly in giving back to our community, and extending our experience and knowledge at these and other forums.
