With sessions ranging from Scaling Pinterest, to the Architecture Behind Super Fast DNS, to a Case Study in Scaling a Fuzzy Search, attendees at Surge 2012 experienced a full range of topics on both days.
Fastly's Artur Bergman explained the mysteries of a CDN, while Kate Matsudaira, Decide, talked about extreme in-memory caching. OmniTI's Theo Schlossnagle and Brian Clapper told the crowd to develop in production and push code to development.
Among the highlights this year were the Lightning Talks, emceed by Viggle's Geir Magnusson Jr. Theo Schlossnagle spoke about "tying your shoes," and Brian Clapper gave a quick tutorial on beer making. Another OmniTI employee, Greg Chiasson, reviewed some of the more interesting tweets from the conference's first day.
Attendees approved of Friday afternoon's chocolate covered bacon, and all in all, everyone got the benefit of speakers' acquired experience to see how things were done—and done better. Learning from our peers was the genesis of Surge and we hope to see everyone back again in 2013. Stay tuned for the CFP in early spring!
